Brand Winderbaum Hints at Future Defenders Stories, Compares NYC to a ‘Medieval Kingdom’

The release of the Echo show added new elements to the MCU. It was the first show under the Marvel Spotlight banner and the first character-focused, R-rated series. Even though the main character wasn’t very well-known, the show was successful. The biggest change in Echo was that it officially brought Netflix’s The Defenders Saga into the MCU timeline.
There are some challenges with this, but they will likely be sorted out in the future, especially with Daredevil: Born Again coming soon – a reboot of the Daredevil show.
Since Daredevil is returning, fans have been curious about other characters, especially Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Both actors have said they’re ready to reprise their roles and continue their stories.
Brad Winderbaum was recently on the Phase Hero Podcast, where he was asked about possible Defenders stories in the MCU. He said that New York City in the MCU feels like its own world, and Daredevil: Born Again shows it as a place where different people are fighting for control, like a medieval kingdom. He finds this idea inspiring and believes there’s room for more stories to be told in this setting.
“I think NYC is in a way a universe in and of itself in the MCU and certainly the way it’s laid out in ‘DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN’ sets the table for NYC as being like a medieval kingdom with different people vying for control of the throne and that is a world that is inspiring to think about telling more stories in”
This isn’t the first time the Defenders have been hinted at in the MCU. At Brazil’s D23, Winderbaum said he’d like to see Jessica Jones’ story continue with another season in the MCU.
He also mentioned that characters like Colleen Wing could come back if the right opportunity comes up, and there will be some exciting surprises for fans of the Netflix shows, especially with Daredevil: Born Again on the way.
It’s all one shared universe, so you never know where characters are going to pop up next. It’s a huge opportunity to have officially folded those stories into our canon. Whether or not they were always part of the canon, it’s now official, and we can play with those toys in our toy box. There are surprises around the band that I won’t get into, but for fans of the Netflix shows, we’ve got a very exciting show on the horizon in Daredevil: Born Again.
This is great news for fans who enjoy street-level stories. Since the Multiverse Saga has had a rough start, fans have been curious about the more grounded characters, many of whom are tied to Daredevil.
