Excitement builds as details emerge about the ‘Highlander‘ reboot starring Henry Cavill. Directed by Chad Stahelski of ‘John Wick‘ fame, the film promises a fresh take on the classic story of Connor MacLeod, a Scottish Highlander who has lived since the 16th century.
Immortal until beheaded, MacLeod is one of several such beings who have fought epic battles across time.
Set to begin principal photography by Spring 2025, the film will transport audiences from the early 1500s in Scotland to a futuristic New York and Hong Kong.
Stahelski hinted at a unique narrative twist, describing the film as having “a bit of a love story, but not how you think.”
His approach to storytelling was shaped by his experience with ‘John Wick,’ aiming to blend action with a complex character journey.
Cavill, known for his roles in the DCEU as Superman and more recently in action-packed films like ‘Argylle’ and ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,’ was drawn to the project by the rich character development potential.
“My selling point was, to Henry, look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years,” Stahelski shared in a discussion with The Direct’s Russ Milheim.
He emphasized the depth of the character arc, from an ancient warrior to a seasoned martial artist across various disciplines.
While ‘Highlander’ does not yet have a set release date, anticipation is high for its debut in theaters around 2026.
Cavill’s attachment to the project adds to his growing repertoire of major franchise roles, which also includes his upcoming venture into the Warhammer 40K universe, a project he calls “the greatest privilege of my professional career.”
The reboot, first announced in 2008, saw Stahelski join as director in November 2016, and with Cavill’s casting in 2021, the project gained significant momentum.
