‘Thunderbolts*’ is one of the upcoming MCU films, standing out for two key reasons: it introduces Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad and brings the powerful character Sentry to the big screen.
The movie follows a team of former antiheroes, including Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, and Taskmaster, who are brought together for a dangerous mission while navigating their complex pasts and relationships.
While the plot remains mostly under wraps, it’s known that the team will face off against each other during a mysterious mission. Early test screenings have shown promising reactions, indicating great potential for the film.
Daniel Richtman recently held a Q&A on X and shared some new details about the upcoming movie.
First up, John Walker. According to the insider, John Walker’s wife will dump him, potentially setting up an interesting subplot for his future appearances. While John Walker’s marriage has been hinted at in the MCU, it hasn’t been explored in depth, so this development will likely influence his character growth, but it won’t significantly impact the main events of the movie.
A fan asked Richtman if Bill Foster, played by Laurence Fishburne, will appear in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie and if his cancer storyline from Ant-Man and the Wasp will be addressed, particularly with Ava caring for him.
Richtman said that Bill’s cancer will “only be mentioned” in the movie, meaning it will be referenced in dialogue, but Bill won’t appear on-screen. However, he added that there’s a chance Bill could have a cameo if it’s added during reshoots.
A fan asked about Melina Vostokoff, played by Rachel Weisz, and whether she is mentioned in the movie. Richtman said that Melina isn’t mentioned in the current version, but there’s a possibility they could add a mention during reshoots.
The most details have been shared about Taskmaster and Ghost. Richtman revealed that Antonia Dreykov will have memory problems, likely due to the trauma and experiments she went through in Black Widow. Because of this, she has trouble remembering things and needs reminders. Ava Starr is said to help Antonia with her memory issues, and over time, this leads to a genuine friendship between them.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025, and will mark the conclusion of the MCU’s Phase Five.
