The Acolyte has, for better or worse, been one of the hottest topics this year, with the controversy surrounding this show reaching unimaginable heights. The Internet went completely crazy over the series, with those liking it fighting the haters in an Internet war, the likes of which we had not seen in recent years.

To the joy of many and the sorrow of many, The Acolyte was canceled after just one season by Lucasfilm and Disney, despite initial reports that the series was very close to a renewal. While most people thought that that would be it, it seems that the cancelation might not be final.

Namely, Manny Jacinto, who played Qimir in the series, had a guest appearance at the FanExpo San Francisco, hosted by Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt, where he answered some of the fans’ questions and, to be honest, he provided us with a very interesting tease that we wanted to discuss with you.

The Acolyte was a troublesome project from the start. Showrunner Leslye Headland caused an uproar when she said that the series would redefine the canon, and while the series had some systemic issues, it turned out that what the haters hated the most was the fact that the series was woke.

The Acolyte was not a great show, far from it, but the overall concept was fine and the series got better with each new episode, so yeah, most of the hate was more political than structural.

At the same time, it seemed that Disney and Lucasfilm were preparing to renew the series for a second season – especially after that Darth Plagueis cliffhanger teaser – but news suddenly broke that the series was canceled and another series of debates began about the reasons for the series’ cancelation.

We’re not going to go over that again, since we have covered this topic extensively over the course of the previous months, but the most recent comment by the series’ star suggests that the cancelation might not be final. Namely, while appearing at the FanExpo San Francisco, Manny Jacinto answered some questions from the fans, and here is what he said about the future of the series:

Oh man, that’s a tough question. They’re not [connected], they’re definitely not. Oh man, how do I answer that? What time is it? [laughs] There are definitely a lot of different theories, like who he is, because we never actually know his true identity. Is Qimir’s name actually Qimir?

We definitely wanted to explore it. There was definitely going to be more of Plagueis in the second, or if not, the third seasons of the show, but I just can’t say, because, you know, we could come back. I don’t want to spoil anything, or give anybody any false hope, but I would just say there was a lot more to explore, for sure.

And while it is clear that Jacinto is talking about the series in the past tense, his “we could come back” comment also implies that something is happening behind the scenes and that we might just get more seasons of The Acolyte, considering how the first one ended and how there is definitely more to explore.

Of course, as soon as we find out something, we are going to inform you, so keep following us!
