Amy Pascal Comments on the Rumors that Anya Taylor-Joy Is Joining ‘Spider-Man’ as Black Cat

Spider-Man 4 has been one of the most talked-about Marvel movies ever since its announcement over a year ago. It’s confirmed that Destin Daniel Cretton will direct, with Tom Holland and Zendaya reprising their roles as Spider-Man and MJ. However, details about the plot remain scarce.

Early rumors hinted that Spider-Man would go up against Kingpin, possibly in a street-level story. But now, there are whispers that the movie could dive into the multiverse.

As for Zendaya, her role in Spider-Man 4 is expected to be smaller due to her busy schedule. Her character, MJ, currently doesn’t remember Peter, which could tie into the movie’s story, i.e., open the way for a new female lead.

As we have said, Marvel Studios is reportedly looking for new characters for the movie—a male and a female lead—to join Spider-Man and MJ. Some names being thrown around include Sydney Sweeney as Black Cat and Madelyn Cline, but recently, industry insider Daniel Richtman mentioned that Anya Taylor-Joy could also be in the mix for a role in the film.

The role in question is, of course, that of Black Cat, and the prospect of Taylor-Joy, who is one of the biggest stars of today, joining the MCU in such a major role has fans truly excited. We have already reported on this rumor, and we now have the first official reaction to the rumor:

Amy Pascal, as you know, is the producer of the Spider-Man movie and she was recently asked about the rumor that Taylor-Joy would be coming to the franchise, and here is what she said: “She would be fantastic. She’s amazing, [but] we’re not quite at that stage yet. There’s a lot of fantastic female characters.“

From one point of view, this is good news, as Pascal has praised Taylor-Joy and the character, but if you consider the statement as a whole, it seems that no official decisions have been made when the Black Cat is concerned. This doesn’t mean that Marvel would not cast Taylor-Joy, but it sounds more like they haven’t decided to include the character in the movie yet.

But, the rumor mill is running and the fans are hopeful that this rumor will turn out to be true. Taylor-Joy is a brilliant actress and there is no doubt that she would own this role!
