The Mandalorian is, without a doubt, the best Star Wars series that has been released so far. The series, created by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, became a massive hit globally due to its story, great casting choices, as well as its faithfulness to the original lore. The series is currently on a break, with a sequel movie on the way.
While Mando and Grogu are the series’ main characters, one of the breakout secondary characters was Greef Karga, whose rise in the series was a brilliant example of character development. Karga, sadly, won’t be appearing in the sequels, as Carl Weathers, the actor playing him, passed away on February 2, 2024.
The possibility of Karga being recast is there, but it doesn’t seem like Lucasfilm will do anything like that. Why? Well, The Mandalorian has just released a special featurette dedicated to Carl Weathers, which will be available on the upcoming home media releases of the series.
The Mandalorian premiered in 2019, and since that moment, three seasons have been released. The first two seasons of The Mandalorian were released on Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on December 12, 2023, with special Steelbook packaging, concept art cards, and “never-before-seen” bonus features. Disney is continuing its tradition, as the Ultra HD Blu-ray of Season 3 is going to be released tomorrow, on December 3, 2024.
Among the bonus content that will be released as part of the home release are “Honoring the Magistrate: A Tribute to Carl Weathers”, “Galactic Legacy: The Creatures and Droids of The Mandalorian”, and “Forging the Covert: Part Three.”
As you can see, a special featurette dedicated to Carl Weathers will also be part of the home release of the third season and Collider has managed to get the video, which you can check out on their site.
Of course, all those who buy the home releases will get to see all of the bonus clips included in the release, which is something that the fans will definitely enjoy.
This release itself is something the fans are looking forward to, seeing how they had wanted – for years – for Disney to release home versions of its streaming shows, and that is happening, so you can understand how everyone is very happy and excited about the upcoming release.
As for the future of the series, we know that a sequel movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is scheduled for a May 22, 2026 release. A fourth season has not been announced, nor is anyone actually talking about it at this point, so we don’t know, but it is quite obvious that there will be more after the movie; we just don’t know whether it’s going to be another movie or a new season.
