Peacock is currently in talks with ITV America about launching a third spin-off of the popular reality show ‘Love Island,’ according to David George, the head of ITV America.

This move highlights Peacock’s increasing relevance, especially after Comcast decided to retain the streaming service while offloading some of its cable and news networks.

ITV America has been instrumental in producing ‘Love Island Games’ and ‘Love Island: All Stars’ for Peacock, in addition to managing the original U.S. version of the show.

The original ‘Love Island,’ crafted by ITV Studios, continues to enjoy success internationally, including ongoing broadcasts in the UK.

David George didn’t provide many details on the new spin-off, but he mentioned that the existing versions on Peacock have been performing well.

In addition to ‘Love Island,’ ITV America is known for creating popular shows like ‘Snowpiercer,’ ‘Hell’s Kitchen,’ and ‘Queer Eye’ in the States.

At a Content London session, George shared some hard truths about the current slowdown in the market, advising his teams to critically evaluate their projects.

He suggested halving their development slate, emphasizing the need for ideas that resonate broadly rather than appealing just to the producers.

George also highlighted ITV America’s strategy of looking beyond the U.S. for opportunities, noting their recent successes in securing commissions in Australia and the UK for the first time for its labels Leftfield Entertainment and Nobody’s Hero, respectively.

He further commented on the decline of cable TV, which has impacted high-volume production and the sustainability of independent productions focusing on single documentaries.

Looking ahead, George predicts a slow year for global commissioning, with many buyers already planning as far ahead as 2026, indicating a cautious approach to new projects.

Meanwhile, he expressed admiration for Netflix’s consistent performance in a fluctuating market, contrasting it with other streaming platforms like Apple and Amazon, which he feels are still trying to find their footing in unscripted content. He also hinted at a cautious stance toward Peacock’s identity and direction.

George also acknowledged the impact of YouTube creators like Mr Beast and The Sidemen, who are transitioning into mainstream TV, suggesting that traditional media might need to adapt and potentially invest more in digital strategies to remain relevant.
