Succeeding the original “Big Three” anime series, the “New Big Three” has been dominating the manga and anime market successfully for years. While all three manga are over (two of them ended recently), the anime adaptations are still ongoing so fans will be able to enjoy more content in the future.

Among them, My Hero Academia holds a special place in the hearts of many fans, who were saddened by the fact that Kohei Hirokoshi ended the story recently. But, the silver lining is that it was a good and deserved ending that most fans were satisfied with, which is not often the case with major shonen titles.

Be that as it may, while we are waiting for the final season of the anime, the manga’s final volume – Volume 42 – has just been released, and we can confirm that Hirokoshi added more content to the tankobon, including a whole previously unseen epilogue chapter that confirms one major ship from the series!

Officially, Volume 42 comes out on December 4 in Japan (the English release date has not been revealed yet), but copies of the volume are already available, so we can confirm that the closing volume of one of the most popular manga series of all time brings us a lot of new content.

Aside from additional illustrations and moments, Volume 42 also brings us a completely new epilogue chapter – Chapter 431, titled “More” – which shows us what happened to the heroes of the story.

The focus of this chapter is on a relationship between two characters, i.e., the male and female protagonists of the show – Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and Ochaco Uraraka. The two of them, as you know, have been the series’ biggest and most important ship, and the series has hinted at there being some romantic feelings between them. But that’s where it ended. With a hint.

The final chapter released as part of the serialization gave them an emotional moment, but while the fans expected them to confess their feelings to each other, this did not happen, which left many fans angry and disappointed.

But, Hirokoshi has decided to remedy this in Chapter 431, which focuses primarily on the relationship between Deku and Uraraka.

The most important thing you need to know here is that the two of them are now officially a couple and that Hirokoshi has canonized the series’ most important ship.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but it does give the whole series a deeper tone, which is why the fans are very satisfied that Hirokoshi gave everyone what they wanted to see, showing a lot of care for his characters and their development.

To be frank, manga and anime fans will know that such a manner of resolving romantic relationships in shonen series is not strange or out of the ordinary. Basically, every major shonen title hinted at a romance between the protagonist and one of the female leads (Ichigo and Orihime in Bleach, Naruto and Hinata in Naruto, Tanjiro and Kanao in Demon Slayer, Edward and Winry in Fullmetal Alchemist, and so forth), but the main story generally ends with just a hint. Rarely is the romance resolved in the main story.

But, once the story is complete and we get an epilogue chapter, we see that the ship we suspected became a reality, so Hirokoshi did nothing out of the ordinary here, but it was still an epic and emotional conclusion that we loved and needed!
