Initially expected to be a miniseries, ‘Ahsoka’ was later re-evaluated, with discussions about a second season depending on its success. Dave Filoni, already working on a film tying together ‘The Mandalorian’ and its spin-offs, shifted focus towards a potential second season of the show following the first season’s release in October 2023.

By January 2024, Lucasfilm confirmed that Filoni was actively developing the second season, coinciding with his new role as chief creative officer at Lucasfilm, overseeing future projects.

Not much is known about the second season of the show, but Filoni recently commented on the development of the show. Filoni shared that he is deeply involved in writing ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 as its sole writer. While he enjoys the creative process, he acknowledged that developing and resolving the story arcs has been a challenging task.

“I’m so well into that as well. I’ve been writing it. I’m still the single writer on it. So I’m enjoying doing that, but it’s a challenge of course. Working some of these arcs through has been a challenge.”

One of the biggest challenges of the second season will certainly be the question of Ray Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll. As a reminder, Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll never revealed his true plans in the final episode of the first season; instead, he can be seen gazing upon the statues of Mortis Gods on Peridea, an act seemingly foreshadowing what his plans might be. Filoni described Baylan Skoll as a man with dangerous ambition.

Stevenson passed away on May 21, 2023, just four days prior to his 59th birthday. The cause of his death remains undisclosed, but it’s noted that he was hospitalized during the filming of ‘Cassino in Ischia’ on the Italian island of Ischia.

So, what happens now to the character that was supposed to be a giant part of the franchise moving forward? Some past reports claimed that the character will appear in the second season as the role will be recast.

Speaking of rumors, it was recently reported that ‘Ahsoka’ season 2 will wrap up its story completely just in case it doesn’t get renewed for season 3.
