There was a lot of insecurity surrounding the premiere of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which finally took place on December 2, 2024. Led by Jude Law, the series is inspired by classic adventure films such as The Goonies and Indiana Jones and is taking the franchise in a completely new direction.
So far, the series has received very positive feedback, with both critics and fans praising the show, whose fate was very unclear after what happened with The Acolyte earlier this year. But it seems that Skeleton Crew has found its own voice and that the fans are enjoying the new series.
While we are certainly going to discuss the series in the upcoming weeks in more detail, in this report, we have decided to reveal an interesting discovery that actually takes us back to the early days of the Star Wars franchise, which will certainly make a lot of fans very happy.
The story we are about to report is related to the Millennium Falcon, one of the most important aspects of the Star Wars lore, as Skeleton Crew managed to connect us to the early days of the franchise, when Han Solo’s famous ship was just getting started and when the production pitched the first ideas for the ship’s design.
Back when they were working on the ship, it was simply called “The Pirate Ship” and the original design was much different.
The ship was long and slim, and visibly cumbersome, which actually made sense from a narrative standpoint, as the ship really looked horrible, which, in turn, explained why Luke and Ben Kenobi were not impressed with it. But, it turned out that that design was a bit too similar to the Eagles from Gerry Anderson’s Space 1999, which is why George Lucas rejected it and chose another design.
This original design almost fell into oblivion but now, almost half a century later, Skeleton Crew has finally given the original design some life, as The Spaceshipper – a tremendous Twitter account dedicated to spaceships in science-fiction – noticed that Lucas’ original design was officially canonized in the new series:

This is not a major moment and don’t bite yourselves if you’ve missed it. The scene happens in Episode 2 when the kids are transported to Port Borgo, a shadowport frequented by pirates near the busy hyperspace lanes of the Hydian Way. In the background of one of the scenes, you can see the ship in the picture, which is actually identical to the design of the original Falcon.
We don’t know if this is going to mean anything going forward, more likely no than yes, but we will certainly keep you up-to-date, so don’t forget to follow us!
