Johnny Depp Might Sail Again as ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Scripts Are Being Written

News has emerged that ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ might see the return of Johnny Depp as the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow.

Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer behind the franchise, revealed earlier to EW that Disney is developing two separate scripts for the franchise’s future.

While one script aims to reboot the series with a fresh cast, another is geared towards creating a female-led story with Margot Robbie potentially at the helm.

The big question that fans are eager to have answered is whether Johnny Depp will reprise his iconic role.

According to Variety, Disney hasn’t closed the door on Depp’s involvement and is considering a script that could facilitate his return, depending on negotiations with the star.

It’s noteworthy that Disney had previously distanced itself from Depp following allegations of spousal abuse published in Amber Heard’s Washington Post op-ed.

After these events, Depp expressed a strong reluctance to collaborate with Disney again.

However, his return is being championed by Bruckheimer, a long-time defender of Depp, who last year hinted to AP Entertainment about efforts to bring him back into the fold.

The script potentially involving Depp was initially penned by ‘The Last of Us’ creator Craig Mazin and ‘Pirates’ original writer Ted Elliot, with later revisions by Jeff Nathanson, known for ‘The Young Woman and the Sea’.

While the need for ‘Pirates’ reboots can be debated—given that some fans believe the magic of the franchise left with Depp—the allure of reviving such a profitable series is too tempting for Hollywood to ignore.

Despite mixed feelings among the audience, where many consider the 2003 original as the series’ high point, the industry’s penchant for reboots continues unabated.
