Charlie Cox Discusses Matt Murdock’s Relationship with His Mother in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’: “Matt Probably Has Quite a Few Mommy Issues”

Daredevil: Born Again is coming soon and will bring back familiar characters like Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen.
While the full plot is not yet clear, a few details have been shared. Kingpin will be the Mayor of New York City and will use his power to take down vigilantes and superheroes. Both Matt and Kingpin will face the villain Muse, and they might even form a tense alliance.
At Fan Expo San Francisco, Charlie Cox and Wilson Bethel joined fans for a panel where they discussed their careers and their return to Daredevil: Born Again. Cox shared some interesting details about his character.
Cox talked about returning to the role after such a long time, saying it feels strange, and no one warned him about how unusual it is to play a character for so long in the industry.
He also answered some fan questions, and one of the most interesting was about Matt’s relationship with his mother.
Sister Margaret “Maggie” Grace, a nun, had an affair with Jack Murdock and gave birth to Matt. Due to her mental health issues, she had to leave him, but they were later reunited when she and Paul Lantom helped Matt recover from an injury. When Matt found out the truth about his mother, he pushed her away.
Grace later took care of Karen Page after an attack, and Lantom was killed by Benjamin Poindexter. Matt eventually defeated Bullseye and Wilson Fisk, avenging Lantom’s death, and made peace with his mother, who stayed at the church.
The fan question was about Matt’s relationship with his mother after 5 years between the events of Daredevil season 3 and Daredevil: Born Again. Cox gave a funny answer:

Joanne Whalley, who plays Sister Maggie, hasn’t been confirmed for the reboot yet, but based on Cox’s comments, we might see her return. Cox mentioned that their relationship is complicated and there’s a lot to explore in that dynamic.
