James Gunn Confirms Marvel Had Three ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Spin-Off Projects Planned

The Guardians of the Galaxy, as you know, were James Gunn’s lovechild in the MCU. He planned it all, filmed it all, and made the trilogy a hit. Sure, his casting choices were excellent, and Gunn knew how to hit the spot even when the MCU was struggling, but that era is now over.
Gunn has moved over to the DCU and is working on creating proper competition for Marvel with his movies, and it seems that the MCU will either forget about the Guardians for a while or change them up so much that they won’t be the same team from Gunn’s run, which makes sense.
But, speaking to Josh Horowitz recently, James Gunn shared some interesting information about some of Marvel’s plans related to the Guardians of the Galaxy series, revealing how several spin-off projects were, at one point, planned by the House of the Mouse, which is certainly an interesting scoop!
As said, James Gunn brought the Guardians of the Galaxy to the big screen and the first movie was an absolute hit.
The second movie was more or less the same, while the final movie in Gunn’s trilogy gave us an emotional farewell to the characters we loved so much, hinting at a very different future, which is something that Gunn himself said in the interview. But, during said interview, this also popped up:
James Gunn reveals that Marvel Studios had plans for 3 spin-offs for 'GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY' and they include:

And if you don’t believe us, here is what Gunn said:
So, before ending their collaboration with Gunn, Marvel had three spin-off projects planned for this series, all of which would have been absolutely great if you asked us.
A Ravagers series sounds like an epic project, to be honest, especially since it was – as we understood – envisioned in a time when Yondu was still alive, so a (mini)series following the adventures of this crazy bunch would have been absolutely amazing and we don’t know why the MCU never went forward with that one.
The second project was a Legendary Star-Lord series, as we understand it, which would have been focused on the main character and the leader of the Guardians.
Pratt was supposed to reprise his role and while Gunn won’t be working on that project, he has made it very clear in the interview that he would love to see Marvel do more with these characters and that he would love to see Chris Pratt back in the role.
In fact, he confirmed that he and Pratt are friends and that Pratt is constantly asking him about his ideas related to Star-Lord, and Gunn was clear that he would like to see more of the character and that he is okay with Pratt exploring more of him in the future, so this series might not be done just yet.
The Rocket and Groot project was actually supposed to happen before the final movie, and Gunn seems genuinely sad that he was unable to do it; seeing how the film explored Rocket’s past, we firmly believe that some ideas were integrated into the movie, but we’re also quite sad that we did not get a solo project.
