Okay, we know that Marvel started it first, but DC was quick to launch their own fictional universe with the DCEU. Zack Snyder, a director experienced with comic book adaptations, was brought in to kickstart and lead the DCEU, which started off solid, but after a series of issues, bad decisions, and bad films, it was obvious that the DCEU was going nowhere.

Snyder soon left and while the DCEU lingered on for some time, James Gunn and Peter Safran were soon brought in, and instead of building on the already feeble foundations of the DCU, they decided to start from scratch.

So, the DCEU became a thing of the past, as Gunn and Safran decided to start the DCU, which is now slowly shaping up to become a very promising narrative that might just give Marvel a run for its money when it properly starts next year. But, as you will see in this report, the “ghosts” of the DCEU still linger on!

Namely, speaking to Josh Horowitz recently, James Gunn shared a lot of interesting details with us. As you probably know already, we have reported on several important details from this long interview, and we are happy to provide you with another story, this one a bit more entertaining than the previous one, which has been more official in nature.

But, among the things we found from this interview was this one as well:

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a 2024 documentary about the late Christopher Reeve that premiered on January 19, 2024, at the Sundance Film Festival, and received a limited theatrical release in collaboration with Fathom Events in the United States on September 21 and 25, 2024.

The film was widely released in North America on October 11. We don’t know if this happened during the official Sundance premiere or some other, local premiere event, but it is certainly a funny thing.

And while James Gunn and Zack Snyder look nothing alike, it is quite possible that the two of them were mistaken because both ran the DC(E)U at one point. Snyder, as we’ve said, was the original DCEU head and he wanted to craft a darker, more complex universe that was akin to his other movies.

Some of these movies were solid, but a lot of mistakes were made and when a personal tragedy hit Snyder while working on Justice League, the whole thing simply fell apart.

The DCEU lingered on for some time, but it was on a downward spiral and after Gunn was brought in to direct The Suicide Squad, the filmmaker was soon offered to take over as the head of the new cinematic universe, which was recreated as the DCU. And the rest is… or, will be history.

Snyder certainly left a mark on the history of comic book films and while Gunn will most certainly head in a different direction, this story shows how the past constantly influences the future and how such situations can often make up for a very funny story at one point in time, like it happened here.
