James Gunn is working on creating a brand-new cinematic universe called the DCU. It’s meant to replace Zack Snyder’s DCEU, which had some big hits but also plenty of misses over the years.

The DCU officially began today with the release of Creature Commandos, but Gunn and Peter Safran have made it clear that the real starting point will be the Superman movie coming in 2025.

Right now, Peacemaker Season 2 is being filmed, and another exciting project, Lanterns, is in development. This show, inspired by True Detective, will focus on three famous Green Lanterns: Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan.

It was recently announced that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will start production in January 2025 and is set to release in 2026. However, James Gunn clarified that just because a project is on the release schedule doesn’t guarantee it will happen.

Gunn insists that no production starts without a completed script, and if the script doesn’t meet his standards, the project won’t move forward.

In addition to Supergirl, fans can look forward to Paradise Lost, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, an untitled Teen Titans project, a Bane and Deathstroke project, Booster Gold (a TV series), Waller, and a movie about Swamp Thing.

Even with this packed slate, Gunn revealed during his recent appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that a brand-new DCU project was greenlit last week. While he didn’t share any details, fans have plenty to look forward to!

“It happened with another thing that was greenlit last week that I can’t even talk about yet.”

Fans quickly began speculating about which “rumored” project James Gunn might be hinting at. Two likely options are the rumored Clayface movie and the Sgt. Rock project.

Clayface is said to be directed by Mike Flanagan, with reports suggesting his script was approved some time ago. Meanwhile, the last we heard about the Sgt. Rock movie was that Daniel Craig was being considered for the lead role.
