James Gunn is building a new cinematic universe called the DCU, which will replace the old DCEU. The DCU officially began with Creature Commandos, but Gunn and Safran have said that Superman, releasing in 2025, will be the true start of the DCU.

Right now, Peacemaker season 2 is in production, and a new TV show called Lanterns is being developed, featuring three Green Lanterns: Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan.

It’s also been announced that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will begin production in January 2025 and is set to release in 2026. Gunn explained that just because a project is on the release schedule, it doesn’t mean it will definitely be released. This is because Gunn insists on having a completed script before production starts, and if the script isn’t good enough, the project won’t move forward.

Along with Supergirl, fans can expect upcoming projects like Paradise Lost, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, an untitled Teen Titans movie, a film about Bane and Deathstroke, a Booster Gold TV series, Waller, and a Swamp Thing movie.

As you can see, there’s a lot coming. However, in his recent appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, James Gunn teased a new project focused on The Huntress.

“The goal from the beginning was to give the honor that the great characters deserved; the Wonder Womans, Batmans, and Supermans. But then also to prop up these lesser-known characters like Peacemaker, Booster Gold, and The Huntress

The Huntress, also known as Helena Wayne (or Bertinelli), is a superhero in DC Comics. She comes from a Mafia family, but after her family was killed, she became a vigilante seeking justice.

She uses her hand-to-hand combat skills and weapons like crossbows to fight crime. The Huntress often teams up with other superheroes such as Batman and the Birds of Prey.

This is the first time we’ve heard about this possible project, but we’re excited about the idea, especially since Gunn has a passion for bringing lesser-known characters to the screen.

If the Huntress project moves forward, we’ll probably have to wait for The Brave and the Bold to be released first, given her connection to Batman.
