‘The Acolyte’ is one of the newest additions to the Star Wars franchise, but it’s also considered one of the weakest in its history. Despite Disney spending about $160 million on its production, the show was underwhelming. Low viewership led to its cancellation after just 8 episodes. Some say the cancellation was due to issues like racism and misogyny, depending on who you ask.
This seems to be a common topic in online discussions about the show. While it aired, the stars, especially Amandla Stenberg, who played the twins Osha and Mae, were reportedly targeted by racist comments.
Stenberg’s co-star Jodie Turner-Smith who portrayed Mother Aniseya also found herself as a target of racism, and she even recently called out Disney for not defending its stars online after a hateful part of the fanbase attacked her and her co-stars.
Several months after the whole fiasco with ‘The Acolyte’ took place, Jodie Turner-Smith has talked to Collider and revealed that despite everything that transpired, she would love to return to the franchise.
The actress expressed her enthusiasm for returning to ‘The Acolyte’ or similar projects in the Star Wars universe. She loved being part of the franchise, found the work enjoyable and fulfilling, and considers it a dream project despite the challenges or “politics” surrounding it.
Ultimately, she has no regrets and would eagerly return if given the chance.
Of course [I’d return]! First of all, I loved being in that universe, I had an incredible time doing that, and I loved it. No matter what, it’s fun, gratifying work.
There’s a lot of other stuff that comes with it that has nothing to do with the work and the colors of the work just because it’s’ politics or whatever, but ultimately it was a dream project to be a part of. I would do it again. I would. I don’t have any regrets. If there was an opportunity to do more, I would be right there.

The news comes shortly after Manny Jacinto shared that Season 2 of ‘The Acolyte’ would have included more of Darth Plagueis, had it not been canceled.
To be fair Jacinto did say that he doesn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but it certainly seemed like something more has been teased, especially revolving around his character, who was fan-favorite during the show’s run.
In any case, we’re glad that Turner-Smith is open to returning, however, it would be difficult to incorporate her character in any future installments considering that the character died.
Ultimately, her character could be explored in a prequel show, perhaps showcasing how Aniseya acquired the power to create life. Or how she managed to create twins Osha and Mae.
She can always return in flashbacks as well if the show ever gets a second season, however, that is currently unlikely to take place.
