When Ahsoka first appeared on Disney+, most fans were satisfied. It was a series that the fans had wanted for a long time, and Lucasfilm delivered it in the best way possible. The series did not end with a proper ‘the end’, and a second season was apparent before being confirmed after several months.
Now, we know that Ahsoka Season 2 is being made, and it seems that the new season will start shooting early next year in the United Kingdom, as we came to understand based on the most recent media reports, which is a very interesting fact going forward.
Namely, not only does this have implications for Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise, but the fact that Ahsoka is relocating to the United Kingdom is a story that might influence the future of American filmmaking, as Hollywood is facing a major change inspired by and influenced by financial reasons, as you might have expected.
As you probably remember, Ahsoka premiered on August 22, 2023, with the first two episodes, while the other six episodes were released through October 3, meaning that the series ended after eight episodes. The season received high viewership, generally positive reviews from critics, and several accolades, so a second season was expected.
Although Disney had kept us in the dark for some time, with Dave Filoni working on the series. Now, based on the latest report by IndieWire, is seems that the series has a tentative filming start date set for April 2025, which is very soon. No details have been released and neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed any of this, but these are the latest rumors.
Most of the first season cast members are coming back for this season as well and as far as we can understand, the new season will utilize different film techniques, unlike the first one, which was shot entirely on volume stages. We still don’t have any details, to be honest, but this might have a very positive impact on the second season of the series.
What this move might not impact positively is Hollywood. Namely, with Ahsoka moving to the United Kingdom, Lucasfilm doesn’t have any active projects filming in Los Angeles, which is the center of Hollywood.
Of course, there are numerous reasons and benefits why filmmakers are moving away from Los Angeles, but the fact is that it’s not just Lucasfilm – this year was the worst one in terms of how many films were filmed in Los Angeles, as filmmakers are finding alternative locations with various financial benefits to film at.
This is definitely a potential problem for the future and we are going to see just how the story is going to develop.
