Although there have been many great works of science fiction throughout history, many people believe that Star Trek is the greatest sci-fi series ever. Even when there is fierce competition, the Trekkies will always manage to explain why their franchise is, without a doubt, the greatest one of them all.
Of course, the franchise keeps expanding and while the main television series are not as popular as some older iterations, several projects are still ongoing or in the works. We also have the ongoing comics and the planned film series revival, which is certainly going to make a lot of fans of the franchise happy.
In light of that, we are happy to confirm that Paramount has just released the first trailer for the upcoming Michelle Yeoh-led movie (which is not going to be a part of the mainstream series that is on its way to being revived) Star Trek: Section 31, and you will be able to check it out here.
And while fans will be able to see a new Star Trek movie very soon – in about a month’s time – Star Trek: Section 31 will be a television movie that will be connected to the popular Star Trek: Discovery series. It is intended to be the first in a series of television movies that will act as spin-offs from the television series. This is not the movie series we are waiting for, but it is a good start.
Having said this, we know you’re here for the trailer, so here is the first trailer for the Star Trek: Section 31 television movie:
The official synopsis for the movie reveals the following plot details:
In Star Trek: Section 31, Emperor Philippa Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.
It doesn’t reveal much, but Philippa Georgiou, played by the legendary Michelle Yeoh, will lead the movie, and knowing her character and Yeoh’s acting talent, we are certain that she is going to deliver an amazing performance.
Alongside Yeoh, Star Trek: Section 31 also stars Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Emmy winner Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). Miku Martineau (Kate) portrays a young Philippa Georgiou.
The movie is written by Craig Sweeny and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. It will be executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Craig Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Michelle Yeoh, and produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
The movie is coming out on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025.
