M3GAN is a sci-fi horror movie about a lifelike AI doll created to be a companion for a young girl. She becomes overly protective and starts hurting others to keep her safe. As her actions get more dangerous, her creators must stop her before she causes more harm.

The movie was directed by Gerard Johnstone and written by Akela Cooper, with a story by Cooper and James Wan. It stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw. Amie Donald plays M3GAN physically, while Jenna Davis provides her voice.

Universal was happy with M3GAN and decided to make a sequel in 2022. In 2023, M3GAN 2.0 was confirmed, with Akela Cooper writing and Allison Williams and Violet McGraw returning. The release date was changed from January 2025 to June 27, 2025.

Not much is known about the plot of M3GAN 2.0, but industry insider MyTimeToShineHello recently shared some rumors about the story. These insights were shared through a paid subscription, though the insider has a mixed track record with leaks and scoops.

According to the leak, in M3GAN 2.0, M3GAN is rebuilt to battle a dangerous military AI named AMELIA, played by Ivanna Sakhno, which is designed to take over the world. This time, M3GAN takes on the role of the hero.

We can’t confirm these claims yet, but with AI becoming more common and being a popular theme in sci-fi, it seems believable.

What we do know is that Gerard Johnston will return as director, with new cast members like Ivanna Sakhno and Jemaine Clement. Filming started in New Zealand in July 2024 and finished by October 2024.

James Wan also mentioned that he has an “idea of where sequels would go.”
