‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is one of the most successful MCU movies in recent times. The movie brought both Deadpool & Wolverine to the cinematic universe along with some of the most popular legacy characters from Marvel’s cinematic history.
Due to this fan service, the movie managed to earn over $1 billion at the box office and secure numerous awards, but as we learned, the original ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ pitch was much different.
Ryan Reynolds revealed in the past several pitches for the movie that was pretty much rejected from the start.
The movie was imagined as everything from a Christmas movie about Deadpool saving Santa to a bad cop movie called ‘Alpha Cop.’ It was only recently revealed that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ almost never happened because Reynolds couldn’t make the story work until Hugh Jackman had the idea to return, and then everything fell into its place – and we’re here now, a billion dollars later.
Now in his most recent interview with Variety, Reynolds revealed one more – unknown- pitch for the movie, and it included Bambi.
Ryan Reynolds shared that his first pitch to Marvel for a Deadpool-Wolverine movie was in the style of “Rashomon,” with alternating perspectives from both characters. Marvel rejected that idea, so Reynolds jokingly pitched absurd concepts next, including a Sundance-style film with no special effects or conflict and a story with the hunter who shot Bambi’s mom.
Marvel humorously declined, saying, “We don’t touch Bambi, Ryan.”
REYNOLDS: They were incredible partners. It was meant to be, because the first pitch I had for Marvel and Kevin Feige five years ago was a Deadpool-Wolverine movie in the “Rashomon” style, which is his perspective, then mine, then an objective.
REYNOLDS: And they said no. So then I pitched the most idiotic movies. One was a Sundance movie I pitched them — no special effects, no conflict. And then I pitched one where it’s a two-hander with me and the hunter who shot Bambi’s mom. Their answer was “We don’t touch Bambi, Ryan.”
We knew about the Rashomon-style movie, but we had no idea about the Bambi, and we have only one question for Reynolds – how dare you?
