James Gunn Should Leave Social Media, Popular Insider Claims

As you probably know already, the story of DC’s shared film universe that would mimic Marvel’s MCU is a complex one. It all started with Zack Snyder’s DCEU, which had a lot of potential and was supposed to be a darker take on the genre, but a series of failures, misfortunes, and bad decisions effectively buried that attempt.
After Snyder’s departure, Warner Bros. decided to try again. They brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead the new DCU. This will start from scratch and create a new cinematic universe, hoping to mimic the MCU in the future.
But, so far, the DCU has produced only a small number of works – mostly for television – and while the franchise’s first big story, Superman, is set to premiere next year. James Gunn has been more active on social media than behind the camera, which has some fans worried.
Despite the fact that he has done nothing wrong yet – the DC Studios television works are receiving praise, and he could not have made a mistake yet because he has no films to make a mistake with. He is still facing criticism for how he is running things, as there are some who think that he is not leading the DCU in a proper way.
Gunn is ambitious, which cannot be denied, but is his bark stronger than his bite? In one of our recent articles, we have discussed the future of the DCU, saying that there are many ambitious projects out there, but that the DCU is simply not delivering, at least not yet.
Superman is definitely going to be a major test – we wouldn’t say that the DCU will live or die based on that movie, but it will set the overall direction and tone for sure.
In light of that, as we have said, there are many of those who think that Gunn is not doing a great job with the DCU at the moment, and popular industry insider Jeff Sneider recently published a text with this title: “Why James Gunn Needs to Leave Social Media, Find His Kathy Kennedy, and Let His Work at DC Speak for Itself“.
This is a pretty harsh statement and in a way, we can see where it is coming from. So far, Gunn has been more active on social media than anywhere else, while the DCU is not saying anything really. It all sounds great, ambitious, full of heart and soul… but there is nothing to confirm that, nothing that can back up these statements.
Whether Gunn needs another head to run things like Kathleen Kennedy is doing with Star Wars is debatable, but there is certainly a basis for claiming that Gunn is not delivering the potential he claims to have.
