Jeremy Renner’s portrayal of Hawkeye is a fan favorite in the MCU. His last live-action appearance was in the Hawkeye series, but he recently returned as a voice actor in What If…? Season 2, in the episode What If… Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?
There have been strong rumors in recent months about a possible second season of Hawkeye, which would bring Renner back into the spotlight. Renner recently attended the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he talked about his career and his health following a life-threatening snowplow accident.
On January 1, 2023, he was hospitalized after a severe accident at home with his snowplow, which caused blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. The 14,330-pound snowplow ran over him.
He was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center, had surgery, and stayed in critical condition in the ICU. On January 17, he was discharged and went home. Ten weeks later, he started walking with a cane, and doctors credited his survival to his good health and fitness.
Almost two years after the accident, Renner is now able to joke about it, saying that thanks to the incident, he’s more Titanium than Iron Man.
I am forever grateful for all the love and support. I’m 25 percent titanium, so fuck Iron Man.
Renner said he rarely watches his own movies but made an exception for The Avengers and part of Avengers: Endgame to see the CGI scenes that the cast doesn’t see while filming. “You want to see what’s really going on,” he joked.
He also shared that the original Avengers cast—Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo—have become some of his closest friends. Looking back on his Marvel journey, he recalled wanting to be Spider-Man or The Hulk as a kid. He also joked about being unsure about signing a 10-year deal, wondering if anyone would want to see him in tights at 50.
I remember they wanted to do a 10-year sort of deal. I’m like: ‘I don’t know, at 50 years old, do you want to be in tights, dude? This is not a good look. I don’t think anybody wants to see me at 50 in tights
But it ended up “being one of the more beautiful experiences I’ve had, playing Clint Barton and then finding five of my best friends I can just spend the next 12 years of my life with – going through marriages and divorces and kids and ups and downs in our lives, and experience a lot.
And the Avengers is a real thing. We all got tattoos together, and it’s the A6 symbol, and we all got it on different parts of our body.
The actor also praised his Knives Out 3 castmates, especially Daniel Craig. He mentioned that winning awards, including an Oscar, isn’t a big priority for him. Looking back on his Oscar nominations in 2010 for The Hurt Locker and 2011 for The Town, he said it felt strange, like being welcomed into a special club. He also shared that he took his mother to the ceremony both times.
I didn’t care about getting a statue,” Renner continued. “I didn’t want
the statue because you have to go give a speech. The last thing I want
to do with my social anxiety is go up and have to give a speech to
people
