The Spider-Verse franchise has become one of the standout animated superhero projects in recent years. The first film, ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,’ was a major success, and its sequel, ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ exceeded expectations by setting multiple records.

This film marked Sony Pictures Animation’s first global release since ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’ in 2019. It received rave reviews and earned $690.5 million worldwide, surpassing the original movie and becoming the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. for 2023.

It also became the studio’s highest-grossing film ever and won the Best Animated Film award at the National Board of Review. Furthermore, the American Film Institute included it in its top 10 films of 2023.

We knew that ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ the third installment in the franchise, was in development since Chris Miller and Phil Lord gave us an update back in December of 2023 claiming that the team is working on the movie full steam.

We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going, I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.

In the last few months, some worrying reports surfaced that much of the upcoming movie was scrapped, although those rumors have been subsequently debunked. Now Jharrel Jerome, who voices Miles G. Morales in the franchise revealed Screen Rant that he hasn’t recorded his lines for the upcoming film yet.

He also stated that he doesn’t know much about the details of the project, but there is a visible excitement about returning to the role, and he is curious to see how his character will be developed, especially after the exciting twist involving his character in the previous film.

Jharrel Jerome: I haven’t, but I also can’t really say so much more because, you know, that’s such a tight-knit ship. I don’t even know much. I’m as much in the dark as you, but I’m excited to get back into it and see what they’re thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one.

The threequel was delayed two times already. The first original release date was set for the 2023 release but was ultimately delayed to March 29, 2024, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Needless to say, the movie did not meet this deadline and the release date is currently unknown.
