January 12, 2025, will see the 30th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, which will be held in Santa Monica, California, honoring the biggest cinematic achievements of 2024 in a proper way. While the Critics’ Choice Awards are not among the major awards, they are very important and often an indicator for future ceremonies.
The Critics’ Choice Awards are given in numerous categories, some of which are genre-related, which differentiates these awards from other major ones that have more generalized categories, with only several genres (documentary, animated, short) standing out. In light of this, we can confirm that one of this year’s biggest hits nabbed a nomination.
As you might have assumed, we are talking about Deadpool & Wolverine, as the movie nabbed a major nomination in the Best Comedy category, in which it is certainly one of the biggest contenders when we look at the overall competition and the impact of the movie.
The official nominations in all categories are being revealed as we’re writing this, and it has been confirmed that Deadpool & Wolverine nabbed a major nomination:

As for the full list of nominees in the Best Comedy category, here they are:
- A Real Pain
- Deadpool & Wolverine
- Hit Man
- My Old Ass
- Saturday Night
- Thelma
While we can confirm that all six movies are great and that each of them provides us with a specific, unique story that made us laugh, it seems that Deadpool & Wolverine is a major contender, considering its overall impact and popularity.
From our point of view, A Real Pain might be the biggest contender alongside Deadpool & Wolverine, as the Jesse Eisenberg-directed dramedy became a big hit and has nabbed nominations for several other major awards. It is also a far less commercial film than Deadpool & Wolverine, and such films generally do better at award ceremonies.
But the other movies are also great. Hit Man and Thelma were surprising hits among the critics (especially Thelma, which was hilarious), while Saturday Night has a lot of historical value, which is certainly going to attract a lot of attention among the voters.
My Old Ass will also make an impact as this Aubrey Plaza-led sci-fi comedy brings a very unique story when compared to the other contenders.
As said, the winners are going to be announced in January, and until then, we will have to wait and see how it all turns out, but we honestly think that Deadpool & Wolverine is a very strong contender and that we could be pleasantly surprised in a few weeks when the winners are announced.
