The 30th annual Critics’ Choice Awards will take place on January 12, 2025, in Santa Monica, California, celebrating the most significant cinematic accomplishments of 2024. While not one of the major award ceremonies, the Critics’ Choice Awards hold great value and often serve as a predictor for other upcoming awards.
These awards are presented in a wide range of categories, including some specific to genres, which sets them apart from other major events that typically focus on more general categories with only a few genre distinctions.
In light of this, we are reporting on this year’s nominations, and we are happy to confirm that one of this year’s best movies, Dune: Part Two, has nabbed an amazing ten nominations, just one away from the record 11 nominations of the night, held by two films in total. We are now going to reveal more information for you in the paragraphs below.
The nominations of the 30th Critics’ Choice Awards have just been revealed and we can confirm that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has been nominated in a total of ten categories:

If you think that this is not that good, only two movies – Conclave and Wicked – nabbed more nominations (11) than Dune: Part Two, so we can confirm that this is indeed a major result for the sci-fi epic. Now, let us see some interesting details.
The Best Picture nomination was a sure one, as the movie really does stand out among the films released this year, but we can’t be sure of its success, seeing how the competition in this category is really tough this year and there are multiple strong contenders.
Villeneuve getting a directing nomination is a pleasant and deserved surprise, especially in light of the fact that he did not get nominated for the Golden Globes. It remains to be seen how he will do against his competition and whether this means that he will get a deserved Oscar nod as well.
There are six technical categories there as well and Dune: Part Two is definitely a contender in several of these, seeing how the first film won several technical awards and the second movie managed to elevate the technical aspects, which will certainly matter this year.
An adapted screenplay nomination was also expected, but the movie will face tough competition in this category as well. Interestingly enough, the movie received a Best Score nomination, which is very interesting considering that the movie was recently rejected by the Academy over reusing music from the first movie.
