Matt Reeves’ The Penguin, part of the Batman crime saga, finished its first season a few weeks ago. Since the pilot aired, it has been called one of the best superhero shows in recent years and had strong viewership numbers. According to SambaTV, the show topped the viewership charts for six weeks straight but was oddly missing from Nielsen charts.
The finale drew 2.1 million viewers in the U.S. across HBO and Max, setting a new record, a 50% increase from its debut, according to Warner Bros. Discovery (though they didn’t share the exact premiere numbers).
After a long wait, The Penguin finally made it onto the Nielsen streaming charts, landing at #9 with 595 million minutes watched between November 11-17, 2024.
The Penguin has spent most of its time just outside the top 10 of acquired series. According to Nielsen, the show has been watched for 3.8 billion minutes on Max over eight weeks, plus an additional 650 million minutes from its airings on HBO.
The latest chart shows Family Guy at the top with 970 million minutes viewed on Hulu, closely followed by Bob’s Burgers with 968 million minutes, also on Hulu. Other popular shows include Grey’s Anatomy with 926 million minutes on Hulu and Netflix, Bluey with 919 million minutes on Disney+, and Lost with 854 million minutes on Hulu and Netflix. SpongeBob SquarePants, Gossip Girl, and Yellowstone also made the list, performing well on Paramount+, Hulu, and Peacock.
