Popular Game Show Host Marc Summers Has Just Made His Hallmark Movie Debut

If you’ve ever seen Double Dare on Nickelodeon, or Unwrapped on Food Network, the name Marc Summers will probably be a name you’ll know and you will be able to connect the name with the face. Well, Marc Summers is, indeed, a very popular game show host, as well as a well-known producer, but we are happy to report that his career is expanding.
Namely, as EntertainmentNOW reveals, Marc Summers is considering a new career path. While he is going to remain in the entertainment industry, it seems that the television host is going to appear in a different role more often.
This piece of information comes from Hallmark, as the production company just released its latest holiday movie – Hanukkah on the Rocks – on December 13, 2024, and the movie sees Marc Summers in an acting role, which is something atypical for him, but it could also signify an important career change for the host.
As stated, Marc Summers, known for his time hosting Double Dare and Unwrapped, is stepping into the acting world in a big way with his new role in Hanukkah on the Rocks. This Hallmark film marks his debut as a serious actor, and he couldn’t be more excited about it, even sharing the premiere date on his Instagram profile:
Summers has been a fixture in the entertainment industry for decades. While many of us recognize him from his energetic hosting gigs on Double Dare or Unwrapped, his recent movie role is a new chapter.
The 72-year-old host was quick to admit he’s not traditionally known for acting. In fact, he joked during a recent appearance on New York Living that he always wanted to be in showbiz but “had zero talent.” He started his career later than most, joining Double Dare when he was 34, so this acting role came rather late in his career.
His journey to landing the role in Hanukkah on the Rocks started unexpectedly, as he revealed to the reporters. After performing a one-man show in New York, someone from Hallmark attended and spoke with him briefly afterward. Not long after, the network reached out to him about a movie they were developing.
Summers was initially hesitant, and he even said, ‘Yeah, but I don’t act.’ But the Hallmark executive disagreed, pointing out that she had seen him perform in the show. After reading 20 pages of the script, he decided to take the plunge.
To his surprise, after agreeing to the role, Summers discovered he would be playing one of the film’s leads. At first, he had second thoughts, thinking, ‘What have I done?‘ He admitted he was nervous about looking like someone pretending to act, but after filming, he was pleased with the results.
Summers revealed he had some acting lessons 35 years ago in both New York and Los Angeles, but he wasn’t confident in his skills at the time. It took him years to feel comfortable enough to embrace the opportunity, but he is very happy that he did, as is visible from his comments.
Reflecting on his acting in Hanukkah on the Rocks, he shared that there was one particularly dramatic scene toward the end where he had to cry. He wasn’t sure if he could pull it off, but he was surprised when it came naturally.
The Hallmark movie is their second film centered around Hanukkah, and Summers had a blast making it. He also mentioned that there have been talks about future acting roles, including potentially some work on Broadway.
For Summers, this role is more than just a movie. It’s the realization of a dream he hadn’t fully pursued until now. His willingness to step into a new world at 72 is a reminder that it’s never too late to try something new.
