Ezra Moreland, a 31-year-old model and former Navy rescue diver, is still processing the surprise of winning Hallmark’s reality competition, Finding Mr. Christmas. The show, which had ten men competing in a series of holiday-themed challenges, culminated in Moreland being crowned Mr. Christmas.
As the winner, he earned a role in the upcoming Hallmark holiday movie, Happy Howlidays, where he will play Max, the owner of a dog shelter in Seattle.
Moreland, who had no prior acting experience, took part in all the challenges, including ice skating, ballroom dancing, a shirtless photo shoot with puppies, and acting scenes with Hallmark stars.
Despite his nerves, especially during the first acting challenge, he pushed through each task. That first challenge, where the contestants had to perform a scripted scene with a Hallmark star, was particularly nerve-wracking. Moreland admitted it was intimidating, but after the performance, he felt a rush of accomplishment.
Despite the challenges, Moreland says that stepping up his game after each task helped him succeed. He knew that if he didn’t keep pushing, he wouldn’t make it to the end. Moreland’s journey wasn’t just about surviving the competition—it was about joining the Hallmark family, something he’s now proud of.
Maher also spoke about the power of Hallmark’s brand, which encourages people to take a moment to appreciate the little things, like watching a holiday movie and reaching out to loved ones. For him, the experience wasn’t just about winning—it was about feeling a deeper connection to others and the brand’s warm spirit.
Runner-up Hayden Maher, an Australian children’s entertainer, shared similar feelings. While he didn’t win, Maher felt the experience was life-changing. He had expected fun but found more—a chance to grow and bond with the other contestants.
Maher also emphasized how the show’s atmosphere, guided by Hallmark’s brand of positivity, set it apart from other reality shows. The lack of egos and conflict made for a supportive environment.
Elijah Malcomb, another finalist, also reflected on the tough acting challenges, admitting that at times, he felt overwhelmed. However, listening to the judges’ feedback helped him grow. He mentioned how much they learned by grounding themselves before each challenge.
Jonathan Bennett, who co-created and hosted the show, was there to support the contestants. He explained the importance of the series in terms of learning and growth, not just competition.
Actress Nikki DeLoach, who appeared in the final episode, also served as a mentor. She shared her insights into the tough realities of acting and the resilience needed to succeed in the industry.
For Moreland, the most rewarding part of Finding Mr. Christmas wasn’t just winning. It was the friendships and the sense of belonging he felt through the whole experience. He now looks forward to his role in Happy Howlidays and continuing his journey within the Hallmark family.
