Taika Waititi is well-known for his creative style and humor. He gained major attention after directing Thor: Ragnarok in 2017, which gave Thor a fresh and fun new personality in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Waititi also won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his heartfelt and funny movie Jojo Rabbit. Along with directing, he’s involved in many other projects, acting and producing in big franchises.

After his success in the MCU and his work on The Mandalorian—where he directed an episode and voiced the droid IG-11—Waititi was announced as the director for a new Star Wars movie. However, little has been revealed about the project, and its progress has remained a mystery.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, who shared the news on his Patreon, Waititi’s Star Wars film is now on indefinite hold. This means there’s no clear timeline for when, or if, the movie will move forward. Fans are left wondering what the future holds for this highly anticipated project.

It’s not too surprising that Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie is on hold, especially with a new trilogy of movies already in the works at Lucasfilm, along with James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi project. Insider Daniel Richtman also reported that Patty Jenkins’s Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is back in development.

Waititi recently shared some comments about his upcoming projects, including his untitled Star Wars movie. However, his update was unclear and only added to the confusion, but it does seem to back up Richtman’s report.

What was ever alive? What is death? You know, death is just a new opportunity. More life to grow and flourish. Everything’s always in development. My advice for any filmmaker is, ‘Just say yes to everything.’ Because, you know, things come and go.

And you never know what stage things are. And I’ve been attached to things that have disappeared for three years and then bubbled back up. I’m like, ‘Oh, I thought that thing was dead. Now I’ve got to go do that again.
