First Images from the Killer Doll Sequel ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Are Finally Here

We just got our first look at M3GAN 2.0! Returning director Gerard Johnstone shared his thoughts on the sequel, saying, “It’s very ambitious. I felt the story needed to be bigger, with more scale and scope, but it’s still a tiny budget compared to Marvel movies.“

The first M3GAN movie was a massive hit, earning over $181 million worldwide on just a $12 million budget. Critics praised its mix of horror and humor, and Deadline Hollywood estimated the film’s net profit at $78.8 million after expenses and revenues.

Universal loved the success and announced a sequel in 2022. By 2023, M3GAN 2.0 was officially confirmed, with Akela Cooper writing the script and Allison Williams and Violet McGraw returning. The release date was moved from January 2025 to June 27, 2025.

While we wait for the trailer, we know Williams and McGraw are back, along with horror legends James Wan and Jason Blum producing. New cast members include Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement. Akela Cooper is also returning as the writer, ensuring the sequel stays true to the original’s style.

But the M3GAN universe doesn’t stop there! A spinoff called SOULM8TE is already in the works, directed by Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother). It’s being described as a ’90s-inspired erotic thriller with a modern tech twist and is set to hit theaters on January 2, 2026, just months after M3GAN 2.0.

As for the plot of M3GAN 2.0, details are still under wraps, but a rumor from insider MyTimeToShineHello hints at an epic showdown. According to the leak, M3GAN is rebuilt to take on AMELIA, a dangerous military AI designed to take over the world. Played by Ivanna Sakhno, AMELIA is a new threat, and M3GAN steps into the role of the hero. While this rumor isn’t confirmed, it sounds believable given the rise of AI in sci-fi stories.
