Have you ever wanted to revisit 28 Days Later but struggled to find it anywhere besides your DVD collection? Good news—Sony Pictures is finally bringing the horror classic to video-on-demand platforms starting December 18!
The original 28 Days Later, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, hit theaters in 2002. Its sequel, 28 Weeks Later, followed in 2007 but saw Juan Carlos Fresnadillo take over as director while Boyle and Garland stepped aside.
You can pick it up on Sony’s official page.
Now, Boyle and Garland are back for the upcoming installment, 28 Years Later. This new sequel is set to hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
Unlike the previous films, this one isn’t produced by 20th Century Studios. It’s a joint project between Columbia Pictures, the British Film Institute, Decibel Films, and DNA Films. The film will be released on June 20, 2025, and was filmed on an iPhone, along with its sequel, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple.
The movie’s trailer was recently released, offering a glimpse of the atmosphere and a sneak peek of the Bone Temple.
The cast of 28 Years Later includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, and Cillian Murphy, who returns as Jim. Erin Kellyman and Edvin Ryding also star, with Ryding playing E. Sundqvist.
The full plot is still a secret, but the synopsis reveals the following:
Sometime after the events of 28 Weeks Later, the Rage Virus has returned, and a group of survivors must survive in a world ravaged by hordes of the infected
In April 2024, Nia DaCosta started discussions to direct the second film in the new 28 Days Later trilogy, with Boyle, Garland, and others as producers. By May, DaCosta was officially confirmed as the director, and filming for 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple began on August 19, 2024, alongside the first movie.
