Here Are 11 New Horror Movies Coming Out in January 2025

The world of horror movies is an interesting one, as well as an evolving one. George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead paved the way for horror masters such as John Carpenter and Wes Craven, as well as some other indie hits like The Evil Dead. Since then, the genre has been evolving at an incredible speed.
And while not all horror titles make it to the mainstream, a lot of these titles are released regularly, and that fact is what actually inspired this article, as we are going to talk about some upcoming releases that are coming out very, very soon.
Namely, this report is going to bring you a list of new horror movies that are going to be released in January 2025. The list is going to contain various titles – major and minor ones – so if you’re a fan of horror flicks, this list is the right one for you!
1. The Monster Beneath Us – January 3, 2025
This is a feature film that tells the story of a woman whose son says he has found a new friend living in the basement of their country house. The woman doesn’t suspect anything initially, but when she notices her boy spending more and more time in the basement, she begins to suspect that there is something afoot there, and goes on to investigate the mystery. The movie will see a limited theatrical release.
2. George A. Romero’s Resident Evil – January 7, 2025 (VOD)
This is technically not a feature film, but rather a documentary film about Romero’s unmade Resident Evil movie. We know that the famous video game series was eventually adapted for the screen, but the legendary horror master had nothing to do with it. This documentary chronicles the process behind Romero’s rejected script and combines documentary narration with Romero’s specific style.
3. Birdeater – January 10, 2025
The movie is set in the Australian Outback as a bride-to-be joins her fiance at his bachelor party. Surrounded by the mysterious scenery of the Outback, what was supposed to be a fun party becomes a horrible story of self-discovery as details about their relationship begin to emerge, turning the party into a proper nightmare for everyone present.
4. Survive – January 10, 2025 (VOD)
This VOD feature will be somewhat of a “reverse Jaws“, if that makes sense. Namely, a family is caught in a major storm that almost destroys their boat. When they regain composure, they discover that the Earth’s polarity has changed and that the water is being drained from the oceans, which means that hungry creatures from the deep are there to hunt for prey.
5. Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare – January 13, 2025
The Poohniverse (and yes, we’d forgotten about that abomination) is coming back with Peter Pan, as the newest installment in the horror franchise is going to premiere in theaters on January 13 and will, as you can guess, follow Peter Pan’s brutal revenge. The movie will only be available in cinemas until January 15, so if you want to catch it on the big screen, you only have three days.
6. DinoGator – January 16, 2025 (VOD)
This is more or less a recycled story about a beast in the wilderness that is set on killing people. This is a blend between a dinosaur and an alligator created by a scientist, who now has to venture back to the murky swamps with a group of people to save the whole community from being brutally eaten and killed by the very monster he himself created not that long ago.
7. Wolf Man – January 17, 2025
Aside from the documentary, this one might actually be a relevant title for a wider audience seeing how it has Julia Garner and Christopher Abbot in it. The premise will see their characters go to a family estate in rural Oregon with their daughter, but as soon as they arrive, they are attacked by a strange animal that is somehow connected to the mysterious disappearance of Abbot’s character’s father.
8. Both Eyes Open – January 17, 2025
Ally, the main character of this movie, escapes from an abusive relationship, but things aren’t as good as they should be. She is hallucinating about her abuser and soon begins to receive cryptic messages that confuse and scare her even more. But, as she begins to dig deeper into the mystery of the messages, she starts to uncover a ghastly truth.
9. Screamboat – January 24, 2025
Believe it or not, this is not a Poohniverse installment, but it is equally ridiculous. As the title suggests, it is a horror remake of the animated classic “Steamboat Willy,” which was Mickey Mouse’s on-screen debut. In this movie, Mickey is on a murder spree because he is “a murderous and mischievous mouse who is mean, tiny, and loves getting up to no good”. Sounds fun, eh?
10. Presence – January 24, 2025
Okay, to be fair, this movie already premiered at Sundance in January of this year, but it will be getting its proper release on January 24 next year (although the date has changed so many times that we wouldn’t count on it until we actually see it). Be that as it may, this psychological thriller with elements of horror is directed by the legendary Steven Soderbergh, so you can expect a very interesting movie.
11. Companion – January 31, 2025
This movie was originally set to be released on January 10, 2025, but was pushed back to the end of the month. We have already written about this film, and it is going to be a very interesting psychological horror that many fans will be able to enjoy, which is why this could also end up being one of the bigger titles on this list.
