Carrie-Anne Moss, famously known for her role in The Matrix, recently opened up about the cancellation of The Acolyte, her latest project on Disney+. Despite the show’s early termination after just one season, Moss appeared largely unaffected by the decision. In an exclusive interview with SFFGazette, she shared her perspective on the unpredictability of television series.
‘The Acolyte’ experienced a mix of reviews from fans and critics alike. While there was a positive tilt in audience reactions, Disney+’s decision to cancel the series left many surprised, as the streaming service seldom cancels shows outright.
The series ended with many unresolved story arcs, which sparked discussions among the show’s followers.
Moss, who was slated to portray Master Indara for only one season, compared the experience to her previous role in ‘Jessica Jones,’ another show that met an untimely cancellation.
‘Yeah, I don’t really invest in thinking about whether…it’s like when I was in a Marvel show [Jessica Jones] and I was really shocked when it got cancelled in the end,’ she explained. ‘You kind of get used to that so you don’t really…you can’t even have a moment of disappointment. It’s just not worth it. It just happens. It’s part of it.’

Her calm acceptance stems from her extensive experience in the industry, where abrupt changes are commonplace. Moss emphasized that such endings are a part of the career she has chosen and that dwelling on them is not productive. Her approach is pragmatic and focused on moving forward rather than lingering over what could have been.
Her indifference may also stem from the fact that her character was unlikely to return in the second season. As you may recall, Master Indarra was killed in the pilot episode and only reappeared later in a flashback, limiting her involvement in future storylines.
This mindset reflects a seasoned actor’s adaptation to the highs and lows of the film and TV industry. Despite the show’s cancellation, Moss’s portrayal of Master Indara was met with enthusiasm from her fans, adding another notable character to her repertoire.
