According to Deadline, the upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘God of War‘ by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon has found new guidance through Ronald D. Moore, now at the helm as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

This shift comes after the departure of the original showrunner Rafe Judkins and his executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, who left following a change in creative direction by the studios.

Ronald D. Moore is recognized for his work on several ‘Star Trek’ series and the popular shows ‘Outlander’ and ‘For All Mankind.’ He gained significant acclaim for rebooting ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ which earned both critical and award-winning success.

Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Amazon Studios and PlayStation Productions. She highlighted the depth of the ‘God of War’ narrative, a game celebrated across the PlayStation network.

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, echoed this sentiment, noting the opportunity to introduce the beloved game to both existing fans and new audiences through a high-quality live-action series.

The series promises to be a true representation of the 2018 video game and might also incorporate elements from the recent ‘God of War: Ragnarök.’

It traces the journey of Kratos, the former God of War, who seeks solitude in the Norse realm of Midgard after a violent past in ancient Greece. Following the death of his wife, Kratos and his estranged son embark on a perilous trek to fulfill her last wish of spreading her ashes from the highest peak.

This journey soon unfolds into an epic quest that challenges their relationship and forces Kratos to confront new gods and monsters.

Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, emphasized the compelling and character-driven aspect of ‘God of War.’ He praised the franchise’s potential to captivate audiences worldwide with its expansive worlds and rich storytelling.

With Moore’s proven track record and the creative resources of Sony and Amazon, the ‘God of War’ series is poised to be a significant addition to the landscape of live-action adaptations of video games.
