‘Violent Night’ is a 2022 Christmas action comedy where Santa Claus, played by David Harbour, battles mercenaries who take a wealthy family hostage. The film also stars John Leguizamo, Alex Hassell, and Beverly D’Angelo.
For a few years now, there’s been talk about the sequel. Back in 2022, David Harbour mentioned ideas for a sequel to ‘Violent Night,’ including the possibility of introducing Mrs. Claus, suggesting Charlize Theron for the role. Director Tommy Wirkola also discussed exploring Mrs. Claus, the North Pole, and elves in the story, noting the sequel’s chances relied on the first film’s success.
By December, producer Kelly McCormick confirmed plans for a sequel were moving forward. In January 2023, it was officially announced that the sequel was in development. Harbour later shared in March 2024 that filming might start in early 2025, depending on schedules.
Now Harbour is back again with another exciting update for the sequel. The actor shared on his private Instagram profile a photo of himself with Santa holding what appears to be a script for ‘Violent Night 2.’ The caption reads: “Merry Christmas ya filthy animals”
Pat Casey and Josh Miller are returning to write ‘Violent Night 2.’ Director Tommy Wirkola shared last year, “There’s stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves. But story-wise, I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.”
Producer Kelly McCormick also said, “The development’s going super well, and everybody’s really, really excited about moving those worlds forward.” She hinted that filming would likely start early next year, and David Harbour’s recent social media post seems to confirm that things are on track.
