Get ready for a journey through a retro-futuristic wasteland as the Russo brothers bring us their latest sci-fi spectacle, ‘The Electric State.’
Slated for release on Netflix this March 14, the film promises to be a thrilling adventure featuring a stellar cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and Stanley Tucci.
In ‘The Electric State,’ we follow the story of Michelle, an orphaned teenager portrayed by Brown, who navigates a post-robotic war America.
Accompanied by a charming toy robot and a charismatic drifter, played by Pratt, Michelle sets out on a cross-country quest to locate her younger brother.
This odyssey takes them through an America transformed by both technological marvels and the remnants of a devastating conflict between humans and robots.
The narrative, adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s 2018 graphic novel, captures the essence of a fairy tale wrapped in a science fiction setting.
‘The story felt like a fairy tale to us,’ Anthony Russo shared. ‘We were drawn to those elemental aspects of fairy tales,’ he added, highlighting the blend of childhood innocence with futuristic chaos that defines the movie.
Chris Markus and Stephen McFeely, who penned the script, have worked closely with Stålenhag to expand upon the original story while preserving its emotional depth. S
tålenhag himself has expressed excitement about the adaptation. ‘I’m blown away by the movie,’ he said to Netflix. ‘Seeing the emotional core of my book come to life, the need for family, beautifully expanded in the film, was amazing.’
Joe Russo also noted, ‘We grew up on science-fiction and fantasy, which fuels our creative ethos. This film is a blend of big, fantastical ideas that are both entertaining and thematic.’
As we count down to the premiere, ‘The Electric State’ is shaping up to be a unique addition to the sci-fi genre, combining nostalgia with futuristic imagination. Don’t miss it this March on Netflix.
