In a recent TVO interview on ‘The Agenda,’ actor Robert Picardo shared some exciting updates about the upcoming ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.’

While filming in Toronto, Picardo, who will return as the holographic Doctor from ‘Star Trek: Voyager,’ mentioned that the show is expected to premiere in early 2026.

During the interview, Picardo couldn’t share many details about the new series due to a strict NDA.

However, he did express his joy in reprising his iconic role, a character he originally portrayed starting in 1995.

He also shared a fun tidbit about his initial audition for a different role on ‘Voyager,’ which led to his casting as the Doctor.

‘Starfleet Academy’ is set in the 32nd century and follows the reopening of the academy after a catastrophic event known as The Burn.

The series will feature new faces like Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, Zoë Steiner, and Sandro Rosta as students.

The faculty will include some familiar characters alongside Picardo, such as Jett Reno, Sylvia Tilly, and Admiral Charles Vance, played by Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman, and Oded Fehr, respectively.

Gina Yashere and Holly Hunter will also join as a professor and the chancellor, while Paul Giamatti is set to play a mysterious villain.

Excitingly, the show has already secured a renewal for a second season, even before its premiere, promising more adventures with Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany in a recurring role.
