A Recent ‘Star Wars’ Identity Reveal Created Contunity Problems for ‘Ahsoka’

The history of the Star Wars canon is a long and complex one, as you might imagine. It all started with Lucas’ films, then it evolved to include the Legends universe, but when Disney bought Lucasfilm, it was all retconned and revamped, with the cinematic works and only a few other ones remaining canon in the Disney era. Everything else became non-canon.
While some parts of the old Legends universe were slowly integrated into the current canon, Disney is building its own Star Wars canon, so it is only natural to expect both new revelations as well as some continuity issues from time to time. In this report, we are going to talk about a piece of news that is actually both.
Namely, do you remember the mysterious Inquisitor that Ahsoka Tano fought in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi? Well, the most recent Star Wars Encyclopedia provides us with more information on the Inquisitor, but that seems to have resulted in some continuity issues!
In case you don’t know what we’re referring to, it is Episode 6 of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi and the brilliant novel Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston. In the former, Ahsoka Tano battles an Inquisitor whom she manages to defeat, and who is a fierce opponent. At the same time, in Ahsoka, Ahsoka battles another inquisitor under very similar circumstances. Initially, it was thought that this was a continuity error, but it turned out differently.
Namely, in Ahsoka, it was clearly identified that the Inquisitor in question is the Sixth Brother, but the design of the character in Tales of the Jedi was significantly different; the latter character had not been identified at the time and the fans believed that Filoni simply changed things to tell his story, but then we have this in the Star Wars Encyclopedia:

This clearly identifies the character as the First Brother, a character completely different from the Sixth Brother that Ahsoka fought in the novel. At the same time, the books say the following about the Sixth Brother:
This is also it says about the sixth brother in the book 🤷♀️. pic.twitter.com/c8tNwnk9B2

The issue here is not that we now know who the First Brother is but that these two characters feature in almost identical stories. This, actually, means that both these stories are true, and while the reference book fixed the continuity issue, it did so in a clumsy way, as it turns out that Ahsoka lived through an almost identical story twice. But, at least, both of them are true!
