Although Feige recently announced that the MCU will produce fewer shows, several upcoming series that were already in development before the strikes are still on the way.

One of these is a live-action adaptation of Wonder Man, based on the comic book character.

The show will follow Simon Williams, an actor and stuntman who gains superpowers and becomes the superhero Wonder Man. It will be a satire and a tribute to Hollywood.

Created by Destin Cretton and Andrew Guest, who serves as the showrunner, Wonder Man will be released under the Marvel Spotlight banner. This means you won’t need to watch previous MCU shows to follow the story, and it will cater to a more mature audience.

The series has been in development for several years, and the main cast has been announced. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star as Simon Williams/Wonder Man, with Ben Kingsley returning as Trevor Slattery. Demetrius Grosse will play Eric Williams, Simon’s brother and a villain, while Ed Harris will portray Simon’s agent, Neal Saroyan. Lauren Glazier and Josh Gad are also part of the cast in undisclosed roles.

Although Marvel Studios recently released the first short teaser for the show, details are still scarce. Fortunately, Marvel’s Head of Streaming and Television recently shared some insights about the upcoming release on the Phase Hero podcast.

You know it’s a two-hander between two amazing characters. There’s this odd couple of Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery and you get a little bit of glimpse of that in the trailer. I don’t wanna go too much into story details, it’s very fun to see people speculating about what the plot will be.

That is part of the fun of it. If you’re a fan of West Coast Avengers and know a little bit about Simon Williams you’re going to be… I mean, I hope if you’re anything like me, you’re going to be very excited to see how much homage to the source material there is.

It really is a love letter to Hollywood in a lot of ways.

Recent reports suggested that Wonder Man, Armor Wars, and Vision would be linked through the West Coast Avengers, and we’re excited to see this partly confirmed, hinting at more of the team in the future.
