Chloe Okuno is perhaps still not a mainstream face, but thanks to her gripping horror storytelling, including writing and directing the acclaimed segment ‘Storm Drain’ in the anthology V/H/S/94, she is quickly rising in fame.

Her feature film debut, ‘Watcher’, premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and gained widespread attention, being distributed by IFC Midnight and Shudder. She also created the award-winning short film ‘Slut’ (2014), which won multiple prizes, showcasing her talent early in her career.

Now Okuno is working on a new horror movie called ‘Brides’ with Maika Monro set to star. This marks the third collaboration between Neon and Maika Monroe, with Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu producing through Likely Story. Pre-production has started, and filming is set for March. Neon will handle the theatrical release.

Monroe starred as Julia in the 2022 psychological thriller ‘Watcher,’ Chloe Okuno’s directorial debut. In 2023, she played Case in the action thriller ‘God Is a Bullet,’ based on a 1999 novel. In 2024, she portrayed Lee Harker in the horror film ‘Longlegs’ alongside Nicolas Cage, a role she described as unique and transformative; the film became the highest-grossing independent feature of the year.

‘Brides’ is based on Okuno’s original screenplay. The film is about Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband, who visit a remote villa in Italy. The villa’s owner, a mysterious count, shows an unusual interest in Sally.

Neon secured ‘Brides’ through a deal handled by Jeff Deutchman and Jason Wald. FilmNation Entertainment started international sales at the American Film Market in Las Vegas. UTA Independent Film Group managed both global and domestic rights.
