Did ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Just Covertly Change Its Title?

Fantastic Four: First Steps is one of the most anticipated movies in the MCU. It is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025, and we’ve already seen some sneak peeks from the set that hint at an exciting comic-accurate experience.
The film will be set in an alternate reality and will introduce the Fantastic Four, along with some of their most well-known villains.
The latest news about the movie is about its title. “First Steps” was added during SDCC when we got to see an exclusive clip of the team and hear the music by Michael Giacchino.
Fans weren’t too excited about the title, but it seems that it has quietly changed to something much better.
This rumor comes from a well-known and reliable subreddit called MarvelStudiosSpoilers. A crew member added a new subtitle to their LinkedIn profile: “Herbie – Fantastic Four: First Contact.”
The Cosmic Circus reported that a crew member working on Fantastic Four: First Contact listed “Herbie” on their LinkedIn profile. At first, this looked like a mistake. But after the news spread, the crew member removed Herbie’s name and kept the title, which suggests it might not have been an error.
Even though it’s just one word different from the previous title, it really matters, especially for Star Trek fans. First Contact is the name of a well-known Star Trek movie from 1996, and Kevin Feige has said many times how much he loves Star Trek.
Also, Matt Shakman was supposed to direct Star Trek 4 before Marvel offered him the Fantastic Four project.
It’s unlikely that this title change is a simple mistake, and it’s reasonable to think this will be the final title. It’s definitely better than the First Steps subtitle, which suggested that the team was just starting out, even though it’s been confirmed that the Fantastic Four will already be an established team in their own reality.
