The 10 Most Expensive Superhero Suits Ever Made

Join us on Reddit for the latest Marvel & DC news!
We know that superhero movies cost a lot of money, that is undeniable. But, when you look at those numbers, you usually think that most of it goes to the actors, the director, the writers, and the CGI department, especially the latter, because these movies rely on CGI more than anything these days.
But, you would (and will!) actually be surprised by how much the costumes of some of your favorite heroes are priced! And yes, we are aware that some costumes were made using CGI or enhanced using CGI, but there are those that have actually been designed and made physically, and boy, can they be expensive!
In order to introduce you to the fascinating world of superhero costume design, we have decided to bring you a list of the ten most expensive superhero costumes ever made, ranked from 10th to 1st place, with the (known and confirmed) prices next to the costumes, along with some of our comments.
10. Wolverine’s brown suit from Deadpool & Wolverine – $100,000
Yes, the one in the photo above. This was an alternative Wolverine suit seen in the movie for a brief moment, and while it definitely does look epic, we were truly amazed when it was reported that it cost an incredible $100,000 to make. We don’t know if this was the most expensive suit on set, but if it is not, we’re afraid to ask how expensive the most expensive one was.
9. Ben Affleck’s SnyderVerse Batman suit – $100,000
The Batfleck suit was a truly epic one and a suit that the fans really liked. It stresses out the character, and it perfectly fits both Affleck as Batman and the world that was created by Zack Snyder.
And while $100,000 for this suit seems quite reasonable, Affleck himself later claimed that the price was a bit too high when compared to the final product as a whole.
8. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man suit from Far From Home – $130,000
Whatever your thoughts on the Holland era might be, especially when compared to the earlier series, you have to give it one thing – the suit was epic. This suit seen in Far From Home was truly amazing, both in terms of design and how it fit Holland, and we can agree that while $130,000 is a lot for just one costume, it made complete sense and it was definitely worth it.
7. Star Lord’s mask from the MCU – $160,000
The mask? Really? The costume as a whole was pretty basic, but even if you added the guns and the mask, it shouldn’t cost $160,000. And it probably did not. But, $160,000 was the price for which the mask was sold at an auction, reaching the highest price among 600 items that were sold off then and there. It must have been a proper Marvel enthusiast to cash out that much for the mask.
6. Henry Cavill’s Dark Superman suit from Zack Snyder’s Justice League – $200,000
Ah, the mythical Black Suit that was cut from the theatrical release, but was finally shown in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Everyone loved this suit, really, and Henry Cavill made it look absolutely great, which is why we can understand that it is so pricey. And while we don’t know how much it actually cost, it was sold for $200,000 at an auction, so there you have it!
5. Chris Evans’ original Captain America suit from The First Avenger – $228,000
Unlike some of the costumes on this list, this one actually seems elaborate. And while they changed Steve’s costume later on, the iconic The First Avenger suit is now part of history and we can understand why someone would give a lot of money for it.
The suit supposedly went for an amazing $228,000 at an auction, which was higher than the people involved had projected. It doesn’t surprise us.
4. Christian Bale’s Batman suit from The Dark Knight – $250,000
Would you have The Dark Knight suit? Of course, you would; who wouldn’t! We believe that it was complex to make and that it cost a lot, but the price we are giving you is the price it went for at an auction.
And, looking at some other prices on this list, if you have the money to cash out this much, $250,000 for a piece of history seems like a proper bargain from where we are standing.
3. Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther suit – $300,000
We can actually believe that this complex, elaborate suit cost so much money. And this is, actually, the real cost of the costume, not a price it reached in an auction. It was pretty elaborate, and this explains why the price was so high, but also why the production had only six such costumes on set ($1.8 million in total!), despite the fact that the director wanted to have 20 of them. Imagine spending $6 million on these babies…
2. Robert Downey Jr’s original Crimson/Gold Iron Man suit – $325,000
Downey changed several suits over the course of his appearances, but the original gold and crimson comic book-accurate suit is still the most iconic one, without a doubt.
According to reports, it was stolen from a storage unit in Los Angeles, where it was kept, and the police report indicated that its value is around $325,000, which is an amazing number and one that could be pretty accurate.
1. The Shazam family suits – $1,000,000
In all honesty, we thought this was a joke. The suit is simpler than any of the suits on this list, and the movie definitely did not merit investing so much in a simple “spandex suit with a cape.”
But, the costume designer revealed that each of the costumes for the “family” cost “upwards of a million.” Director Sandberg couldn’t confirm or deny this, but based on what we know, this number might really not be far from the truth. Jinkies…
