As for Venom: The Last Dance, we have written several times how the movie has been having a difficult run since its premiere. The critics panned it, the fans praised it, and while it has surpassed its initial budget, the domestic total is still very low and the film is relying on the international markets to save it.
As per Box Office Mojo, as of the time of writing, the movie has earned $193,989,701 in total, earning $70,597,430 in the US and $123,392,271 worldwide. Of course, the numbers for this weekend are still not in, although it seems that the movie is doing well in Asia, based on some reports!
Based on a report by Koimoi, an Indian-based entertainment portal, Venom: The Last Dance surpassed the 70$ million mark at the Chinese box, making it one of the most successful comic book movies in China. And while we are bringing you the story, there is also a warning to take it with a grain of salt!
As per the official and confirmed information we have from Box Office Mojo, Venom: The Last Dance has earned a total of $21,900,000 at the Chinese box office in its first weekend (Friday-Sunday), seeing a significant day-to-day increase from Saturday to Sunday. Now, Koimoi reports that the movie surpassed the $70 million mark this weekend, which would be a significant increase when compared to the first one.
This 10-day run is remarkable, really, but we have to be honest and say that we cannot really confirm this information. As for Koimoi as a source, we don’t know how reliable they are when it comes to such exclusive information, which is why we are advising you to take this piece of information with a grain of salt until a reliable official source confirms these numbers, which don’t seem that impossible.
This means that Venom: The Last Dance surpassed the entire run of Deadpool & Wolverine, this year’s second-highest grossing movie, in China in just 10 days; the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led movie earned just short of $60 million in China, which was not a brilliant result. On the other hand, Venom: The Last Dance will surpass Aquaman 2, Oppenheimer, and No Time to Die with this result if these numbers turn out to be correct.
This could be a significant financial boost for the movie and Sony might ultimately end up calling it a success, despite the low ratings. The audience has, we cannot deny that, embraced the movie, as Tom Hardy’s charisma helped this movie, as it did the whole trilogy. His relationship with Venom is something significant and the third movie actually gave it some depth that elevated the whole story in a significant way.
Venom: The Last Dance is still playing in cinemas. Written and directed by Kelly Marcel, the movie stars stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Venom, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Peggy Lu, Clark Backo, Alanna Ubach, and Andy Serkis.
It concludes Sony’s Venom trilogy, setting the scene for Knull as a future villain, either in the SSU or the MCU, or both. The official synopsis of the movie reveals the following:
In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.
Ultimately, we hope that the reports from Asia, which are fresher than ours, are true and that the movie will, ultimately, be a financial success for Sony, as the story of Eddie Brock and Venom, despite all its flaws, deserves a proper and happy ending in a major way.
