Reports Indicate Sony is Developing an Agent Venom Movie

The Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) has struggled over the past few years, with most recent films doing poorly at the box office and getting negative reviews. However, Venom: The Last Dance has changed things around, proving to be a solid addition to the series and a big hit in theaters, especially in Asian markets.

We know that Spider-Man: Noir is currently in development, and early reactions to set leaks have been very positive. Plus, there are a few other rumored projects in the works.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman, known for his reliable track record, now suggests that Sony may be expanding its most popular franchise. According to Richtman, an Agent Venom movie is currently in development.

Agent Venom is a version of Venom where the symbiote bonds with Flash Thompson, who was once Spider-Man’s high school bully but later became a soldier. After losing his legs in combat, Flash is chosen by the government to use the symbiote in controlled doses, giving him superpowers and the role of a special agent.

With abilities like superhuman strength, agility, shapeshifting, and Spider-Man-like powers, Flash must constantly keep the symbiote’s darker side in check. His missions lead him to work with teams like the Secret Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, making him a heroic take on Venom.

Fans believe an Agent Venom movie could have the R-rating they missed in the original Venom trilogy, which makes it understandable that Sony is looking to expand the Venom series—still its most successful part of the SSU.

With Venom: The Last Dance seemingly closing Tom Hardy’s role as Venom, there’s talk of Venom entering the MCU with Knull, who is rumored to be the next villain in Spider-Man 4. Writer-director Marcel hinted that The Last Dance was only the beginning, suggesting that symbiotes have a future in the SSU, possibly through Agent Venom.
