Jude Law played Yon-Rogg, the leader of Starforce and a mentor to Carol Danvers in the 2019 movie Captain Marvel. At first, his character seems helpful, but later it becomes clear that he has his own plans and ends up going against Danvers.
Law’s performance as Yon-Rogg got mixed reviews, with some fans hoping for more details about his character’s background and reasons for his actions.
It turns out that Jude Law wanted to do more with his character and have more fun with it. He recently talked to Variety and shared his thoughts about the role.
I don’t think there was much more they could get out of Yon-Rogg. That, for me, was the height of Marvel.
Law said he wanted to dive deeper into his character and make it more exaggerated and funny. He had a good time playing the role but felt restricted by the costume, which made it hard to move. He pointed out that even though he trained a lot for stunts, the thick rubber suit made it difficult to perform them.
It was a really good experience. I wish I’d been allowed to have a bit more fun with the part. I wanted him to be more arch. I wanted to lean into the humor more. Also, those suits are hard to move in because they’re thick rubber.
You go to stunt camp for a couple of months, where you’re doing all these fight rehearsals and learning to do all this stuff. And then you put the suit on, and you go, ‘Oh! I can’t touch my toes! How am I going to do all that stuff with this thing on?’ You figure it out though.

Interestingly, his co-star Brie Larson also talked about the challenges of wearing superhero costumes. She said that the first advice she gives to newcomers in the MCU is about the suit.
I’m the first person to email everybody because it’s very specific and very strange. People are like, “I don’t know how to do this.” Yeah, no one does. Why would you? I’ll say, “Train, because you’ll want to be as prepared in your body as you possibly can because it only gets harder as the job goes on. And really understand how to be able to go to the bathroom in your suit.” The first Captain Marvel, it was a 45-minute thing to get me in and out of that costume.
