James Gunn’s Superman has been one of the most talked-about upcoming superhero movies since it was announced. Directed by Gunn, it stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The film aims to reboot Superman’s story, moving away from the past DCEU and kicking off the new DC Universe. Originally titled Superman: Legacy, it focuses on Superman’s challenge of balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his Smallville upbringing while holding onto traditional values in today’s world, and Gunn has confirmed it won’t be an origin story.

The first teaser trailer for the movie has just been released. You can watch it below:

The teaser gives us a glimpse of several important locations, and the first look at Superman’s powers is amazing. It looks like Gunn is bringing back the classic Superman, choosing a lighter tone compared to the darker version from the previous DCEU.

David Corenswet described the story as a mix of For All Seasons and All-Star Superman, but with Gunn’s unique style.

The cast includes Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt (Mister Terrific), a superhero and inventor, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason (Metamorpho), a superhero who can change his body’s elements.

Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, a tough peacekeeper in the Green Lantern Corps, while Isabela Merced stars as Hawkgirl, a hero with wings and weapons. Other cast members include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Alan Tudyk, among others.

Superman will hit theaters worldwide on July 9, 2025, and in the U.S. on July 11, 2025, in IMAX. It will be the first film in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
