Deadpool & Wolverine turned out to be a major hit. The film passed the billion-dollar mark and is the second highest-grossing film of the year, behind only Inside Out 2. The critics were not that amazed, but the fans loved the movie and when it comes to the future of the franchise, that is what ultimately counts.

As for the movie itself, we know that it contained numerous cameos and Easter Eggs, as Marvel had access to a plethora of various characters, a lot of which ended up in the final product. At the same time, a lot of characters did not make the final cut.

We have already written about many such roles and missed opportunities, revealing the reasons behind some of them. Now, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, as well as director Shawn Levy, revealed more details about Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider, who is among the characters that did not make the final cut.

Shawn Levy said that they were ultimately very lucky to get a lot of positive responses for the movie, which made the final product much better: “Luckily, we got a lot of yeses. Mostly because Ryan would just call them directly. He’d often do an ambush FaceTime and put them on the spot.”

But, as said, not everyone agreed. We’ve written about what happened with Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, and it is now time to reveal what actually happened to Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider, who is a notable absentee, especially in light of the fact that he was initially planned for the movie. Ryan Reynolds was the one who revealed the information about Ghost Rider:

They were in early drafts We had versions of that [sequence], but then as it shook out, you’re sort of looking…We’re trying to make the movie responsibly, as well. It’s a big budget.

It’s the biggest budget of any of the Deadpool movies, but you want to give yourself as much constraint, which really I think facilitates asymmetrical thinking and creativity. If you have too much time or too much money, it usually murders that kind of creativity. So, yeah, you’re shrinking things. But we did talk to Nic Cage. We tried to get him, but he was a no-go…. I would’ve loved him.”

As you can see, it simply failed to materialize. We can confirm and agree with Reynolds that Cage’s presence in the movie would have been amazing that he would have given the movie an extra touch, but it did not happen, sadly, and we can only hope that Cage might someday make a return as Ghost Rider, although we’ll be able to enjoy him in the role of Spider-Man Noir in the meantime.
