Ryan Reynolds Hints at Gambit’s Comeback: Marvel is “Obsessed” with The Character in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Deadpool & Wolverine was an action-packed thrill, packed with cameos, side characters, and plenty of familiar faces. One memorable scene takes place when Wade and Logan return to the resistance group’s hideout, where they encounter Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Dafne Keen’s Laura, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit.

While we’ve seen Elektra, Blade, and Laura in the past, this was the first time Tatum’s Gambit graced the screen—and he immediately stole the spotlight. Apparently, Marvel was just as impressed, according to Ryan Reynolds:

I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role

It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.

Reynolds is referring to the 2014 leak of Deadpool test footage, which proved to the studio that there was enough fan interest to make a full movie.

Earlier this year, he hinted that he “might have helped” with that leak. In a similar way, he’s hoping Deadpool & Wolverine can spark enough excitement to convince Marvel to bring Channing Tatum back as Gambit.

“And Channing is so singular in how he plays that character, but also he’s so beautiful physically, the way he moves and the way he can pick up steps.”
