I Know What You Did Last Summer is one of the greatest horror franchises, so it’s not surprising that we’re getting yet another sequel. In February 2023, it was announced that a new sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer was in the works, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in talks to return to their original roles.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was chosen to direct the film, with Leah McKendrick writing the script based on an idea from both Robinson and McKendrick. Neal H. Moritz will produce. The plot is expected to be similar to Scream (2022), where original characters are part of a story with a younger cast. The film is set to be released on July 18, 2025.

Deadline now reports the new film is joined by a cast of Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette. The movie will also star Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. Freddie Prinze Jr. is confirmed to return from the original movies, and Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks to join him.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer, directed by Jim Gillespie in 1997, was written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and based on Lois Duncan’s novel. The film led to sequels in 1998 and 2006, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. only returning for the first sequel. A third movie, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, was a direct-to-video release with a new cast.
